The Roof is on!!

The 2.44m x 7.2m side of the roof is now on phew.... another 2kg of nails used today..

Some dim pictures as we forgot cameras so used my phone instead.

Almost half the Roof Done

Great progress today ... got first half of roof on.

Please note the hole in the mid section of the roof is to allow for a special section of roof that has the wood burning stove chimney in.. this will not be made of wood as it will need to withstand temperatures of around 600C at the interface point which would not be too good if it was wood. Wouldn't want the workshops to get too hot now would we?

We have seen a nice version of this interface in a local model shop in an old barn conversion that has a wood burning stove and we will be look at making a similar interface.

Anyway here are the pictures of half a roof..




It was a bit tricky getting the first panel in as we had to wedge a wider gap on the end rafter to enable the wood to slide under. Once this was in place the rest all just lined up beautifully!

In this pic can see how nicely it all tucked in under that crossbeam rafter ... absolutely perfect seal to keep the rain out ... will be perfect for when we get the roof underlay and felt on.



The shallow angle on this side made it easy to sit on to secure each of the panels. Tomorrow will be hoping to complete the other side ... going to be even more challenging as the panels are longer and heavier with a steeper angle!

Skined up

All skinned up ready to start the roof tomorow ..... then felting the roof gable ends finaly windows and doors wiring solar pannels insulation and plasterboard.

All trussed up

The roofing trusses are up... Only the upper window frames to coplete now then we can get the skins on.

Rafters are up !

Framing finished!!

Three good weather days and the framing is finished!

Today I was Midge less so feeling pleased that I managed to erect the final 4m of framing.

Fantastic day loads of framing made and erected.

Only 4m of wall framing left to be made and erected before we can start on the roof trusses.

It was almost dark when we finished today so the pictures are not too good.

Wall frames for the West End erected today

Using almost 2kg of nails and 7 coach bolts the wall frames for the West End were erected today.

Its been Framed

The first Modular Wall Frame completed plus all the framing cut for the other frames today. Phew....



The Frame store .. "Actually its the Big Bertha CNC cutting base being used as a work bench"

The floor fitted its now ready for the Walls to be bolted on.

So four hours and the floor is laid ready to bolt the walls on these are made in 8' x 4' x 75mm sections 4 sections at each end and six sections on each side. Each section is bolted together with 90mm long 8mm coach bolts.

At last the base is finished for the Modular Solar Powerd Shed

Thus the Bodgeit and Midgeit Workshop Build begins after Easter The base has take a long time to to build mainly due to clearing the site of the 12' high Miscanthus grass and the 5' diameter pampas grass that once was growing here. Since starting I have now had 3 Serious PSVT attacks.




Next Job Fitting the Flooring ready for the Walls to be Bolted on.

Part Two.. after two more PSVT instances

So I forgot to mention on the 15th of March whilst doing the first half I had a PSVT attack/event as I managed to get my heart back to normal rate I told the Dr at my 6week check up 30 March where  he increased my /beta Blockers well dubbed the dose. The day after early morning before the new dose takes effect for the day off starts another PSVT event that this time is enough for Blue lights and siren all the way to the hospital where they struggle to get my heart to slow down this time its not 225 its only 197 as the beta blockers have knocked it down.. Any way Beta Blocker dose has now been trebled was discharged 1 hour after my heart rate was fixed.


So here are the pics of the second half of the build the extra concrete piers were added as Midge was worried that the steel posts would not stop the frame sinking so each post now has a 10" X 10" concrete pier around it.. 




Messy hard work digging up the roots of 12' high Miscanthus grass The roots / rysones are like 1" wooden lattice work up to 2' deep. The only way to cut them is sledge hammering each half of the spade blade through the roots to cut  a 4" by 1' to 2' deep slices of root out.




Belts and braces is the design terminology.. Engineering factor X2 any was nice to try out my £39.00 Cement mixer which was really cool bought over a a year ago maybe two years ago so Kinda cool as mixing by hand with PSVT is possibly not a good idea now!!.



So now I'm just waiting for the dear old DIY place again to sort out their Swift rafter hangers computer stock problems that says they have 102  packs of 10 hangers in stock when they have NONE!!
Computers stock control programs humans and the old garbage in garbage out problem..
